This course explores the roles and responsibilities of commissioners, enhancing the understanding of the commissioner’s multifaceted position as advocate, leader, team-builder, strategist, and more. Increase your effectiveness as a board member and leader while exploring the intricacies of board-staff relationships and boundaries. This seminar provides an excellent training foundation for the new commissioner. (1.2 CEUs)

Effective leadership is the key to long-term success for Housing Authority, Community Development organizations and in fact all organizations. They are challenged to bring together the necessary leadership with a direction and set of goals that have the desired outcome for residents and communities. Leadership continuity and long-term sustainability are not an accident. There are concrete practical steps that CEO’s, senior managers, and Commissioners can take to ensure sustainability and successful succession when it occurs for the CEO and other key leaders. EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT CAPSTONE

This capstone seminar, geared toward the chief executive officer, executive director, deputy director or department director with ten or more years of experience, will allow attendees to share their experiences and participate in case studies similar to those listed in the Certified Management Executive (CME) Study Guide. Areas of discussion include dynamics of housing authorities, ethics and the expectations of senior management, legal issues, lead vs. manage, behavior and communication styles, and effective decision making. (.65 CEUs)
The Certified Management Executive (CME) exam will be conducted the following morning for those who would like to sit for the CME certification examination. NOTE: The exam will also be offered on October 30 from1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
ETHICS FOR THE HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMISSIONER

Ethics plays a significant role in the life of a commissioner. It increases the commissioner’s understanding of professional conduct guidelines and the ability to recognize and appropriately address ethics-related issues and problems that may occur. Learn about industry laws and regulations impacting ethical conduct and build your capacity as a board member. This course, intended for the new commissioner and a refresher for the veteran, uses practical applications and skills assessment exercises to reinforce ethical concepts. (.65 CEUs)
