HUD Set to Publish Proposed Rule on LGBT Access to Housing

HUD is set to issue a proposed rule intended "to ensure that its core programs are open to all eligible individuals and families regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity."  The proposed rule is scheduled to appear in the Federal Register on Monday, January 24.

HUD Announces FY 2010 Continuum of Care Grants

HUD has issued a press release announcing $1.411 billion in FY 2010 competitive awards for Continuum of Care renewals.  According to the release, HUD will announce awards for new projects "later in the year."  A state-by-state breakdown of the awards made under the renewal competitive programs (Shelter Pluse Care, Single Room Occupancy, and Supportive Housing) is available through

NAHRO Comments on FY 2010 Choice Neighborhoods NOFA

On January 14 NAHRO submitted a comment letter in response to HUD's request that stakeholders offer feedback on the Planning Grants section of the FY 2010 Choice Neighborhoods Round 1 NOFA.  According to an email message, the Department is looking "to improve the Choice Neighborhoods initiative to better meet the needs of housing owners, public housing authorities, and local communities."

Summary: HUD’s notice explains the procedures PHAs are required to use for verifying Social Security numbers, Social Security benefits of applicants, participants and household members at the time of application for rental assistance programs and during mandatory reexamination of household income, respectively.
