Update from Washington

Attention NAHRO members! NAHRO, along with others, will testify tomorrow before the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing and Community Opportunity.  The hearing will focus on a recently released discussion draft of the ‘‘Section 8 Savings Act of 2011,” which makes reforms to the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Tony Bazzie, Executive Director of the Raleigh County Housing Authority in Beckley, West Virginia, will testify on behalf of NAHRO.  In addition to providing legislators with testimony, NAHRO is also collecting data through our new administrative fee survey: “NAHRO Surveys PHAs to Assess Actual Impacts of Administrative Fee Pro-rations on Voucher Programs in 2011 and Estimated Impacts for 2012.”  NAHRO will use this data to inform lawmakers and HUD about the impacts of reduced administrative fee funding resulting from the enacted FY 2011 spending bill and the potential impacts of continued under-funding of the account in 2012.

In case you didn’t see it in the latest edition of the Monitor, NAHRO wants to hear your success stories.  In other news, HUD will be hosting a conference call on Thursday, June 23 to discuss the CY 2011 Operating Fund eligibility submissions process. The call begins at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time and all PHAs are invited to participate.
