Boulder Housing Partners Executive Director Elected Senior Vice President of NAHRO

WASHINGTON, November 1--

Betsey Martens, Executive Director of Boulder Housing Partners (Colo.), has assumed a leadership position with the nation’s premier housing and community development association. Martens was sworn in as Senior Vice President of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) in Washington, D.C. on October 6, and will serve in that position for the next two years.

Martens will remain the executive director of BHP while serving in this leadership role. Prior to her appointment as executive director, Ms. Martens served as Co-Executive Director and Deputy Director of Boulder Housing Partners, as well as the Regional Service Officer for Mountain Plains and Colorado NAHRO, Executive Director of Boulder County Community Action, and as a Housing Authority Commissioner. She is also an Adjunct Professor for the University of Colorado’s College of Architecture & Planning, Vice President of the Board of Directors for Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, and Founding Chair and Honorary Board Member of Thistle Community Housing.

“I am extremely honored to have been elected the senior vice president of NAHRO,” said Martens.  “I’ve been involved in the housing industry for over 20 years and to be given the opportunity to contribute to the reinvention of our nation’s housing policy is very exciting.”

Ms. Martens has been a member of NAHRO for more than ten years. During that time, she has served on the Member Services Committee, chaired the Public Housing Subcommittee and Rent Reform Working Group, and served as Vice Chair of the Housing Committee and as a member of the Board of Governors. She has also represented NAHRO at the Future of Public Housing Summit, and during hearings on Capitol Hill on the future of public housing.

“Betsey has proven herself a strong voice and leader for our issues time and time again,” said NAHRO CEO Saul Ramirez, Jr. “I look forward to continuing to work with her in her new position.”

The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, established in 1933, is a membership organization of 23,000 housing and community development agencies and professionals throughout the United States whose mission is to create affordable housing and safe, viable communities that enhance the quality of life for all Americans, especially those of low- and moderate-income. NAHRO’s membership administers more than 3 million housing units for 7.6 million people.
