Commissioners' Fundamentals (1.2 CEUs)
March 29-30
Day I: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Day II: 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

This course explores the roles and responsibilities of commissioners, enhancing understanding of the commissioner's multifaceted position as advocate, leader, team-builder, strategist-and more. Primarily designed for new commissioners, Commissioners' Fundamentals provides an excellent training foundation. Attend this seminar to increase your effectiveness as a board member and leader, while exploring the intricacies of board-staff relationships and boundaries. (Prerequisite: N/A)

Understanding the Basics of Tax Credits: An Overview (1.4 CEUs)

Leadership Training for Commissioners (.7 CEUs)

This seminar focuses on strengthening the commissioner's leadership capacity within the housing and community development industry. The program encourages responsible, conscious leadership within the board structure and emphasizes the role of the commissioner as an advocate for safe communities and affordable housing. The course provides ideal training for the new commissioner-and skills reinforcement for the veteran commissioner. (Prerequisite: Commissioners' Fundamentals seminar)

NAHRO Certification Exam Retakes
April 2

Obtain NAHRO's Public Housing Manager (PHM), Section 8 Housing Manager (SHM), or Senior Professional Housing Manager (SPHM) certification. Targeted to individuals who have previously taken either exam and need a retake.

NAHRO Proficiency Exam Retakes
April 2
Check-in: 12:30 p.m./Exams: 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.

Retakes will be given for those individuals who have previously taken the following NAHRO Proficiency Exams: Housing Quality Standards, Public Housing Occupancy, HCV/Section 8 Occupancy, Public Housing or Section 8 Eligibility Income and Rent Calculation, and Uniform Physical Condition Standards (UPCS).

Conference Sessions
All conference sessions, unless noted, and the pre-and post-conference seminars and exams and National NAHRO Committee meetings will be held at the JW Marriott Hotel, 1331 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC.

Hotel Information
NAHRO's room blocks are now closed. Rooms may still be available at the participating hotels, but you must call the hotels directly to check on availability, and NAHRO cannot guarantee the rate for these rooms. Please note shuttle service will only be provided between the JW Marriott and the Marriott at Metro Center.

Hotel Changes/Cancellations
Name changes, arrival/departure changes and or cancellations may be submitted via the passkey system until February 28, 2008. Deposits will be refundable for cancellations received on or before February 28. Deposits will be forfeited for cancellations and/or confirmed hotel assignment changes made after February 28. Please note changes to your confirmed hotel assignment made prior to February 28 will incur no penalty. Changes to your confirmed hotel assignment made after February 28 will result in a forfeit of your hotel deposit.

Hotel Acknowledgment/Confirmations
You will receive an acknowledgment of your hotel reservation from the online Passkey System upon completion of your reservation. Rest assured if you have received a confirmation number from the housing bureau the hotel will honor your booking. Please do not call the hotel “just to be sure” until after March 9.

Travel Information
Please check with your local travel agent, airline, or on-line reservation service to make your airline or train arrangements. Washington, DC is serviced by three airports, Baltimore-Washington International (approx. 31.55 miles from the JW Marriott), Washington, DC/Dulles (approx. 26.36 miles from the JW Marriott) and Reagan National Airport (approx. 3.67 miles from the JW Marriott), and by train at Union Station (approx. 2 miles from the JW Marriott Hotel).

  • Taxi Information: Estimated taxi fare from Baltimore-Washington International to downtown is $60 one way, from Washington, DC/Dulles it is $45 one way and from Reagan National it is $14 one way.
  • Shuttle Information: All three airports offer shuttle service to downtown Washington, DC. Shuttle desks are located near the baggage claim level.
  • Subway Information: The Metro, Washington, DC's subway system, is connected to Reagan National Airport via the blue and yellow lines and Union Station is on the Metro's red line. The hotel is located approx. two blocks from the Metro Center Station on the Metro's red line.
