Objectives: This e-learning will cover what green assessments should address as well as the requirements for selecting a firm and the minimum requirements for technical analysis. It will also cover the areas that need to be assessed and certifications and ratings.

  • Planned acquisition, rehab projects
  • Maintenance issues

B. Requirements for Selecting a Firm

  • Similar experience
  • Trained / knowledgeable of building science, green building, technology
  • Sample report (usable format, relevant data, useful conclusions)

C. Minimum Requirements for Technical Analysis

  • Survey of existing conditions
  • Understanding of existing procedures
  • Uses industry recognized approach (ASHRAE, Nat’l labs, etc.)

D. Areas to Assess

  • Energy efficiency
  • Water conservation
  • IAQ
  • Site sustainability
  • Materials and construction
  • Resource efficiency

E. Certifications, Ratings

  • Buildings, homes (LEED, Energy Star, EarthCraft, etc.)
  • Industry specific (GreenGuard, Green Seal, FSC, KCMA ESP, etc.)
