As part of its 2010 Housing America campaign, NAHRO will hold a poster contest for children associated with affordable housing and community development programs owned or administered by NAHRO member agencies. Posters will reflect the national theme of “What Home Means to Me.” The contest is a collaborative effort of NAHRO’s chapter/state, regional, and national organizations. National honorees will be selected from chapter/state-level winning entries.

Click on the video below to see a slideshow of last year's winners and their artwork.

Poster Specifications:

  • Theme - "What Home Means to Me"

  • Size - No larger than 22"x28"

  • Media – Contestant may use any art media (marker, crayon, paint, collage, textiles, etc.), but please consider that posters will need to be mailed and reproduced.

  • Click here for a promotional flyer in Word format that can be adapted with individual information.

Eligibility and Selection Categories:

Contest participation is open to all children residing in affordable housing assisted directly (i.e., public or Section 8-assisted housing) by or supported under community development and affordable housing programs (i.e., CDBG, HOME, LIHTC) administered by a NAHRO member agency.

Three age categories of competition: Elementary - K to 5th grade; Middle - 6th to 8th grade; and High – 9th to 12th grade.

State/Chapter Competitions:

Submissions to National NAHRO must first be judged at the state or regional level (click here for your state and region contacts). Due to the number of entries, NAHRO cannot accept submissions from individual agencies.

Each state/chapter may submit three honorees in each of the three age categories to NAHRO national for entry in the national competition (a maximum total of nine posters submitted to National NAHRO).

National Competition:

Deadline for submission of State honorees to National NAHRO is Friday, September 17, 2010.

State/Chapter honorees should be mailed to:

National Prizes: National honorees will receive U.S. Savings Bonds. The 12 national honorees will receive a $100 savings bond and the Grand Prize honoree will receive a $500 savings bond. The Grand Prize honoree and his or her family will also be provided with transportation to and lodging at NAHRO’s March 2011 National Legislative Conference in Washington, DC. All National honorees will also receive a framed certificate.
