Northeast Oregon Housing Authority Executive Director to Develop National Housing Policy

Contact: Mary Barron, 202-289-3500 ext. 280

WASHINGTON, Nov. 2-- Maggie Lamont, Executive Director of the Northeast Oregon Housing Authority, will help shape policies for the nation's oldest housing and community development association. Recently elected to the board of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO), Lamont will serve a two-year term as the Association's Vice President-Member Services.

As NAHRO's national Vice President-Member Services, Lamont will preside over the Association's Member Services Committee, which addresses organizational issues such as constitutional changes and the dues structure. The committee also coordinates the provision of NAHRO member supportive products and services, such as conferences, publications, insurance, member benefits and awards.

Lamont has served as Executive Director of the Northeast Oregon Housing Authority for 18 years, and has been a NAHRO member for twenty years.

"The programs and policies we strive to bring to the attention of the nation help millions of people," said NAHRO President Donald Cameron. "Because of her first-hand knowledge and experience, Ms. Lamont will be invaluable to these efforts."

The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, established in 1933, is the nation's oldest professional membership organization that advocates for affordable housing and strong, viable communities for all Americans, particularly those with low and moderate incomes. The association represents more than 21,000 housing and community development organizations and officials. NAHRO members predominantly administer Public Housing, Section 8, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), and HOME programs. Member agencies provide housing for more than 7.5 million low-income people; bring more than $1.2 billion CDBG and HOME funding to their communities; and serve more than 152 million individuals.
