Press RoomContra Costa County Housing Commissioner to Develop National Housing Community Development Policy
WASHINGTON, Nov. 2-- Richard S. Lujan, head of Lujan and Associates and member of the Contra Costa County Housing Authority's Advisory Housing Commission, will help shape policies for the nation's oldest housing and community development association. Recently elected to a two-year term as the Association's Vice President-Commissioners, Lujan will serve on the board of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO). As Vice President-Commissioners, Lujan will work with staff, leadership and membership at all levels of NAHRO to expand the skills of commissioners and help them fulfill their responsibilities effectively. Lujan has served as Commissioner for the Contra Costa County, CA Housing Authority for over 20 years, and has headed Lujan and Associates, a management, governmental affairs specialist and marketing consultant firm, since 1976. Lujan has been a NAHRO member for almost 20 years. "The programs and policies we strive to bring to the attention of the nation help millions of people," said NAHRO President Donald Cameron. "Because of his first-hand knowledge and experience, Mr. Lujan will be invaluable to these efforts." The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, established
in 1933, is the nation's oldest professional membership organization that advocates
for affordable housing and strong, viable communities for all Americans, particularly
those with low and moderate incomes. The association represents more than 21,000
housing and community development organizations and officials. NAHRO members
predominantly administer Public Housing, Section 8, Community Development Block
Grant (CDBG), and HOME programs. Member agencies provide housing for more than
7.5 million low-income people; bring more than $1.2 billion CDBG and HOME funding
to their communities; and serve more than 152 million individuals.
