WASHINGTON, Nov. 2-- Montez C. Martin, Jr., Executive Director of the
Charleston County Housing and Redevelopment Authority and President of the Affordable
Housing Coalition of South Carolina, will help shape policy for the nation's
oldest housing and community development association. Martin, recently elected
to a two-year term as the Association's Vice President-Community Revitalization
and Development (CR&D), will serve on the board of the National Association
of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).
As NAHRO Vice President for CR&D, Martin will address issues related to
the economic vitality of cities and the development and conservation of neighborhoods,
with the primary goal of achieving well-planned, socially- and economically-sound
communities.
Martin has been a NAHRO member for twelve years.
"The programs and policies we strive to bring to the attention of the
nation help millions of people," said NAHRO President Donald Cameron. "Because
of his first-hand knowledge and experience, Mr. Martin will be invaluable to
these efforts."
The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, established
in 1933, is the nation's oldest professional membership organization that advocates
for affordable housing and strong, viable communities for all Americans, particularly
those with low and moderate incomes. The association represents more than 21,000
housing and community development organizations and officials. NAHRO members
predominantly administer Public Housing, Section 8, Community Development Block
Grant (CDBG), and HOME programs. Member agencies provide housing for more than
7.5 million low-income people; bring more than $1.2 billion CDBG and HOME funding
to their communities; and serve more than 152 million individuals.
