WASHINGTON, November 26-- Illinois Housing Development Authority's (IHDA)
Office of Housing Coordination Services Director William "Bill" Pluta
will help shape policy for the nation's oldest housing and community development
association. Pluta, recently elected to a two-year term as the Association's
Vice President-Community Revitalization and Development (CR&D), will serve
on the board of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials
(NAHRO).
As NAHRO Vice President for CR&D, Pluta will address issues related to
the economic vitality of cities and the development and conservation of neighborhoods,
with the primary goal of achieving well-planned, socially- and economically-sound
communities.
Mr. Pluta has over 30 years of experience in managing and operating federal
and State housing, community, and economic development programs at both the
State and municipal government levels, and in both urban and rural areas of
Illinois, Texas, and Louisiana. He has been a NAHRO member for more than 10
years.
"The programs and policies we strive to bring to the attention of the
nation help millions of people," said NAHRO President Renée Rooker.
"Because of his first-hand knowledge and experience, Mr. Pluta will be
invaluable to these efforts."
IHDA (www.ihda.org) is a self-supporting state agency that finances the creation
and the preservation of affordable housing across Illinois. Since its creation
by an act of the Illinois legislature in 1967, IHDA has allocated more than
$8 billion and financed more than 183,000 units of affordable housing across
the State. IHDA is also a bonding authority, and independently sells bonds,
based on its own good credit, to finance affordable housing across the State.
The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, established
in 1933, is the nation's oldest professional membership organization that advocates
for affordable housing and strong, viable communities for all Americans, particularly
those with low and moderate incomes. The association represents more than 21,000
housing and community development organizations and officials. NAHRO members
predominantly administer Public Housing, Section 8, Community Development Block
Grant (CDBG), and HOME programs. Member agencies provide housing for more than
7.5 million low-income people; bring more than $1.2 billion CDBG and HOME funding
to their communities; and serve more than 152 million individuals.
