Certification
NAHRO Certification of housing and community development managers represents
a higher level of professional recognition to employers, colleagues and
staff, tenants and owners, housing service providers and vendors, and
the general public. NAHRO offers three certification designations
that are listed below.

PHM Public Housing Manager
The PHM began in January 1978 in response to a HUD initiative to
establish professional standards for Housing Managers and Assistant
Housing Managers. Since then, more than 17,000 PHMs have been
awarded by NAHRO. Candidates must meet the proficiency level requirement
of 78 or higher. View the PHM

SPHM Senior Professional Housing Manager
Introduced in September 1999, the SPHM recognizes individuals that
have senior-level comprehensive management experience with housing
and community development programs and agencies. Candidates must
meet the proficiency level requirement of 70 or higher.
How to Apply - Individuals interested in NAHRO certification should
register for the appropriate exam. An exam may be taken after
a seminar on the topic, either as part of the course or separately.
