Rebuilding Lives: Addressing Mental Health Needs of Families
Impacted by Hurricane Katrina and Other Disasters
Housing agencies are often faced with providing services to families
displaced by crises. The massive displacement caused by Hurricane Katrina
is such a crisis. A Howard University School of Social Work panel of experts
will provide information and strategies to assist in understanding and responding
to the mental health needs of families who have been displaced as well as the
workers who serve them. The panel consists of scholars and practitioners
in the fields of clinical practice, community mental health services, displaced
populations, and housing. Consistent with the historic mission of
the School of Social Work, the panel offers expertise in working with African
Americans and other minority populations (www.socialwork.howard.edu).
This seminar is a must for housing agencies that are facing the challenges of
relocation of families displaced by Hurricane Katrina as well as other disasters.
It is especially appropriate for managers, admissions personnel, as well as
resident service providers and resident leaders.
