November 12  On-Line e-Briefing Session: Using the Intern Program to Provide Talent/Replacement For Your PHA

1:30 PM – 3:00 PM (Eastern Daylight Savings Time)

This special e-Briefing provides the latest information and professional “how to” guidance for PHAs of all sizes operating the Public Housing and voucher programs to engage in successful strategic planning initiatives.. This distance learning is geared to Commissioners as well as PHA Executive Directors, management, administrative/personnel and program staffs.

Key objectives of this 90 minute e-Briefing are to provide for PHA use:

  • Staffing assessment tools and succession planning;
  • Promising practices that describe how PHAs and others related agencies have used intern and related strategies to address staffing shortages and need to fill critical vacancies
  •  NAHRO Intern approach and what is envisioned for 2009
  •  Intern perspective on “what young people now want”
  •  HUD perspective on capacity and talent needs for both PHAs and HUD staff, particularly those HUD staff that work directly with PHAs

The presenters will be: Jacob Fox, Property Manager, Portland Housing Authority and NAHRO PNRC Vice Chair; Larry Cobb, Trustee of NAHRO’s BECT and member of the Professional Development Committee,  and Regional Service Officer for MARC; Deborah Hernandez, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Field Operations in HUD’s Office of Public and Indian Housing; and  Kevin Forkiewicz, NAHRO student intern.   Pat Arnaudo, Director of Special Projects at NAHRO will be the moderator and provide remarks on her almost 40 years experience in managing interns in the public and assisted housing field.
