June 10 Online e-Briefing Session

NAHRO e-Briefing on Interim Re-Examinations: Balancing Program Integrity, Cost-Effectiveness and Streamlined Management

1:30 PM - 3:00 (Eastern Daylight Savings Time)

This special e-Briefing provides seasoned professional guidance for PHAs of all sizes operating the Public Housing and voucher programs regarding the discretionary policy of “upward” interim re-examinations.  The distance learning is geared to Executive Directors, public housing and voucher program administrators and Commissioners.

The objectives of the e-briefing are to:

1. Clarify the statutory and regulatory flexibility provided to PHAs whether or not to perform interim re-examinations (under differing circumstances) when the tenant’s income goes up within the year;

2. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of  eliminating an interim reexamination policy when the tenant’s income goes up—in terms of balancing program integrity, cost benefit, and administrative streamlining—and in terms of PHA size (small, medium, large, extra large);

3. Provide information for PHAs to conduct their own cost-benefit analysis of whether or not to conduct upward interim reexaminations; and

4. Provide “best practice” information from a very large and two medium-sized PHAs on their experiences in conducting interim re-examinations.

The key presenter will be Mary Ann Russ, Director of Public Housing and Voucher Programs, Housing for Houston. Other Presenters are Elizabeth Lindsley, Executive Director, Ann Arbor Michigan Housing Commission and Rebecca Hartman, Director of Administration for the Athens Housing Authority in Georgia. Pat Arnaudo, Director of Special Projects, NAHRO Professional Development will be the moderator .

1. To attend the class, you will need access to a computer with a high speed Internet connection and a telephone with a standard phone line (preferably with speaker function/capacity).
2. Registrants must have and provide an e-mail address to receive instructions for accessing the online class.
3. Registration cancellation or substitution notices should be sent to thamilton@nahro.org.

To guarantee availability, it is recommended that you register at least 10 days prior to the e-Briefing.
