Property Based Budgeting for Property Managers

HUD's new Asset Management model assumes that agency personnel directly responsible for day-to-day operations of the properties will have included in their responsibilities, preparing the budgets for their properties, and for administering their project activities from their approved budgets. This two-session course, designed for front-line property managers, (1) defines the basics of budgets and budgeting, (2) explains the accountable front-line property manager's role in budget formulation and administration, (3) reviews the common sources of income and typical categories of expenditures, (4) discusses possible sources of information for compiling initial budgets and (5) describes further topics needed to become fully proficient in budgeting and financial analysis. The class includes time for questions and answers. (0.4 CEU)

Faculty
The course will be taught by Veronica Bukowski, PHM and Richard Stanton. Veronica and Richard have been NAHRO Faculty for over twenty-five years. They designed and continue to present NAHRO's property-centric Public Housing Management training. More recently, they have been developing and training NAHRO programs on transitioning to the Asset Management concept. They have developed budget exercises that have been incorporated in training programs targeted at front-line property managers, and have worked with front line staffs on understanding and using property based budgets.
