Proficiency and Certification Exams

Opportunities to retake a Proficiency Test or to sit for a Certification Exam are available at NAHRO training centers, as long as an test or exam time period is scheduled, and at NAHRO National Conferences (Legislative Conference, Summer Conference and National Conference).  Interested candidates must register in advance for the test or exam, indicating which test or exam they would like to take and at what location and they must pay for the test or exam -- $100 for Proficiency Tests and $200 for Certification Exams. 

NAHRO sends test and exam results only to the individual participant unless authorized by that participant to also send the result to the employer agency or other person(s). To authorize that action by NAHRO, the individual registrant must complete and sign an Exam Authorization Release Form and return it to NAHRO. 

Proficiency Tests (test fee included in seminar fee, or can be taken separately for $100)

  • Property Management Essentials Test
  • Housing Choice Voucher Program Management Part I Test
  • Family Self-Sufficiency Test
  • Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Homeownership Test
  • Managing Maintenance Test
  • Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS) Test

Certification Exams ($200 fee applies in addition to any seminar fee)

  • Housing Quality Standards (HQS) Exam
  • Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Occupancy Exam (NAHRO certification also requires the HCV Eligibility, Income and Rent Calculation Exam)
  • Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Eligibility, Income and Rent Calculation Exam (NAHRO certification also requires the HCV Occupancy Exam)
  • Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Occupancy, Eligibility, Income and Rent Calculation Exam
  • Public Housing Occupancy Exam (NAHRO certification also requires the Public Housing Eligibility, Income and Rent Calculation Exam) 
  • Public Housing Eligibility, Income and Rent Calculation (NAHRO certification also requires the Public Housing Occupancy Exam)
  • Public Housing Occupancy, Eligibility, Income and Rent Calculation Exam
  • Public Housing Manager Exam
  • Certified Manager of Property Operations (CMPO) Exam--NEW!
  • Certified Management Executive (CME) Exam
  • Uniform Physical Condition Standards (UPCS) Exam
