NORTH CENTRAL REGIONAL COUNCIL

IA - IOWA NAHRO - STAN VOSS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Iowa Chapter of NAHRO offers two $500 scholarships. 

  • Must be immediate family member of recipient of rental housing assistance
  • Local agency must be individual or agency member of IA-NAHRO
  • Must be registered as full-time student at Iowa community college, college or university for the next Fall semester
  • High School transcripts or GED, essay, letter of recommendation required

IL - HOUSING AUTHORITY OF JOLIET SCHOLARSHIP

Residents may apply for and receive scholarships for up to four consecutive years. The scholarships are awarded as follows: 1st year - $500; Second Year- $750; Third Year- $1,000; and Fourth Year - $1,250.

  • Must be a resident of the public housing and/or Section 8 Housing Program
  • Must be in good standing with the Housing Authority of Joliet
  • High School Senior who has been accepted by or a student already enrolled in an accredited college, university or trade school
  • Must have at least a "C" average for all courses previously taken
  • 500 word essay

IN - STEVEN McCUE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

1 - $1000 scholarship to high school student or adult to attend a two- or four-year accredited college program.

  • Resident of PHA
  • Transcript including SAT/ACT scores and class rank
  • Reference forms to be completed by 2 adults unrelated to you (1 an employer or teacher)
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA during junior and senior years
  • Continuing requirements:
    • must keep the committee apprised of academic progress by submitting grades each semester
    • must maintain 2.5 GPA

MN - MINNESOTA NAHRO EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Each year at its Spring conference, Minnesota NAHRO awards scholarships for post-secondary educational programs. One-year or two-year scholarships of $500 per year will be awarded to student applicants who are sponsored by active MN NAHRO Agency Members. Each Agency Member may sponsor only one applicant. Scholarships may be used for any accredited post-secondary education program, but may not be used for graduate or post-graduate programs.

To sponsor an applicant, an Agency Member must:

  • post notice of the scholarship availability and eligibility guidelines.
  • provide application forms to potential candidates.
  • select their sponsored applicant from submissions received.
  • submit their nominee’s completed application to MN NAHRO.

To be considered for scholarship award, all applicants must:

  • be a resident of a publicly-owned housing unit or a participant in a rent assistance program administered by a Minnesota NAHRO Agency Member.
  • be an adult already enrolled in a post-secondary program OR a high school senior graduating by August of the year the application is made.
  • have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better on a scale of 4.0. (Applies to current students only.)
  • complete their application and return it to sponsoring agency.
  • be sponsored by a MN NAHRO Agency Member.

HOW TO APPLY
Agency sponsorship: each member agency may sponsor one application to Minnesota NAHRO for any given scholarship year. The application together with the sponsor form and other supporting documentation must be submitted. Contact Patricia A. NE - OMAHA, NEBRASKA HOUSING AUTHORITY

All children living in OHA units are eligible for $100 savings bonds for perfect school attendance during the academic year, and for scholarships awarded by and through the Omaha Housing Authority Foundation.

WI - WISCONSIN ASSOCIATION OF HOUSING AUTHORITIES

2 - $750 Scholarships (1 each fall and 1 each spring)

  • Must be a public housing resident or resident of subsidized housing
  • Must be attending any 2 or 4 year accredited college in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • 250-500 word essay
  • 3 letters of recommendation
