What’s Bugging You? Eliminate Pests in Housing with IPM
Are your buildings and developments experiencing chronic pest infestations? Do you have that one apartment that always has bed bugs? Is your pest control program chasing complaints but not eliminating pests? In this session, we’ll discuss why integrated pest management (IPM) provides effective solutions to eliminate pests, their associated health hazards, and reduces exposure to pesticides. We’ll cover the three major pests in housing: bed bugs, cockroaches, and rodents; the most effective IPM treatments for each; and how to implement these strategies with pest control contractors, administration, staff, and residents all playing a role.

Preparing for Management and Occupancy Reviews (MOR) – RAD PBRA
PHAs are embracing RAD and the need for post conversion resources has become increasingly clear. An area of great importance to agencies that have undergone a RAD PBRA conversion is Management and Occupancy Reviews (MOR). There is no comparable review process within PIH and most PHAs are, at best, unfamiliar with the requirements. Additionally, HUD has now implemented Risk-Based MOR guidelines which reward higher rated properties with less frequent reviews. As such, PHAs have begun to participate in “Mock” MORs prior to the initial HUD-performed MORs.

Non-Traditional Financing Sources for Traditionally Underfunded Public Housing
Public Housing Authorities continue to seek cost-effective and mission-aligned methods of enhancing and expanding their real estate portfolios. This has become increasingly important as PHAs rely less on federal funding and more on self-support. As owners, operators and developers of housing, certain PHAs might benefit from exploring a range of possible financing strategies. Hear first-hand about how PHAs have accessed the non-traditional financing sources to realize flexible and lower-cost financing options in connection with new and renovated affordable housing, LIHTC projects and RAD conversions.

Missing Middle Family Housing: Minneapolis at the Confluence of Innovation
The Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA) recently closed the Family Housing Expansion Project, which will create 84 new construction units using modular construction techniques across 16 scattered sites. As the result of new flexibility granted under the Minneapolis 2040 Plan which eliminated single-family zoning, the project design utilizes missing-middle buildings to densify Public Housing-owned urban infill lots at scale. This session will cover considerations for the utilization of modular in a scattered site, affordable housing project and how to navigate PHA considerations like strict federal procurement rules and resident engagement.

Managing Resident Services Staff (What I Wish My Boss Understood)
Very often the work of resident services staff is mis-understood or expected to follow the same parameters and SOPs as housing staff… but the work and demands are different! Management can make or break the success of a resident services program. Who is the best person for the job? Where and when should the staff be working? Is there an easy way to assess a caseload? Come discuss best practices for integrating resident services into the life and work of a Housing Authority. This session is for Resident Services Supervisors, Directors, and other staff.
