Housing America Month

Which Region Will Win Our Housing America Month Contest?

We all win when everyone calls attention to the importance of affordable housing, but now your region can compete for national recognition, a special prize, and – most importantly – bragging rights!

How to Compete

Get involved in Housing America Month! Post on social media, send advocacy letters, promote Housing America Month in your email signatures, on your websites, in your newsletters, and more! Events don’t have to be new or specific to Housing America Month. We want to celebrate affordable housing, which includes lifting up the work that you do every day – maintaining units, providing services for your residents, and more.

To earn points for the Housing America Month competition, please either submit your entries online, or email us at comms@nahro.org.

National NAHRO will take all these entries and amplify them on our social media accounts (check out our FacebookTwitter, and LinkedIn), on our website, in the NAHRO Monitor, and more.

Take Action

  • Send a letter to your local congressional representative or government elected official
  • Write an op-ed explaining why having access to affordable housing in your community is important

About Housing America Month

In 2007, NAHRO created the Housing America campaign and designated October as Housing America Month: a time for the organization and its members to collectively raise awareness of the need for, and the importance of, safe, decent and affordable housing in quality communities.

Each year, housing and redevelopment agencies hold events to celebrate affordable housing in their communities and raise awareness regarding the vital need for safe, decent, affordable housing nationwide.

In our event archives, you can find examples of what NAHRO members have done to recognize and celebrate Housing America Month.
