Reducing Discriminatory Barriers and Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing

All housing agencies have a duty to affirmatively further fair housing, but what happens when local jurisdictions hinder housing agencies from developing affordable housing? In certain circumstances, local government action to obstruct the creation of affordable housing may violate the federal Fair Housing Act, and the U.S. Department of Justice may be able to take action to enforce the Act in certain situations.  This session will discuss local action that may violate provisions of the Act, and also the requirements of the proposed affirmatively furthering fair housing rule.
