Housing Agency Finances 101

Description:

Housing Authority finances and budgets are complex, and can be overwhelming. Commissioners are responsible for the overall financial health of their agencies, but overseeing and monitoring agency finances without an accounting degree can be tricky.

This training will provide an overview of typical agency budgets and financial reports for Asset Managed Properties (AMP’s), as well as the Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher Programs.

Objectives:

After completing this training, participants will be able to:

· Identify common agency programs and funding sources

· Recognize the Commissioner’s role in the development and approval of agency budgets and their responsibility for the agency’s financial health

· Become familiar with common agency financial reports

· Explore tips and strategies for monitoring agency finances
