Excess to Access: Unusual Partners or Opportunities for Affordable Housing
Office vacancy rates are expected to continue to rise, and an increasing number of religious organizations and school systems are dealing with excess real estate holdings. Often, these vacant office spaces and excess holdings are ideally located for access to education, transportation, and employment. These existing structures present a unique opportunity for conversion to affordable housing, and for mission-driven organizations to partner with developers and local government agencies. This session explores this with real world examples and highlights the benefits such as also preventing underutilized/empty structures from becoming blighting influences, and to promote the post-pandemic revitalization of business districts.
Presenters:
Michelle Yarbrough Korb, Shareholder, Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC
Ron Clewer, Illinois Market President, Gorman & Company
