Hip Hop as a musical genre is a multi-billion-dollar component of the entertainment industry. In fact, along with rhythm and blues, it was the largest genre of all music consumed in 2017. Hip Hop’s global impact can be observed in a multitude of ways, from record sales to empowering marginalized communities to organize and speak out against social injustice. Regardless of race, class, culture, or global location, young people have gravitated towards and embraced hip hop culture in masses, in ways that have never been seen before.
