Embracing Indigenous Wisdom to Build More Resilient and Adapted Communities
This session will present NAHRO’s International Research and Global Exchange (IRGE) Committee’s Research White Paper on how learning from long term indigenous practices can help inform new ways in the field of housing and community development. The session will cover lessons learned and insights gained from indigenous peoples in the Americas, Africa, and Australia. The discussion will focus on how to foster stronger community resilience, look at different perspectives on land use and use of community-centered decision-making, and how thinking about resource materials in new ways can guide integration of traditional wisdom into current framework in order to improve the future in a changing environment. All are welcome, bring your lunch!
