August Advocacy: Tell Congress to Finalize FY21 Funding!

Banner for week 5 of August Advocacy: Finalize FY21 Funding!

It’s the final week of August recess! Members of Congress return to Washington next week with a packed agenda. Millions of Americans still need additional COVID-19 relief to pay the bills, but the fiscal year is about to close!

Help NAHRO achieve its goal of sending 8,501 letters to Congress by telling your lawmakers to finalize FY 2021 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) spending. Also, send a letter every single day to remind Congress and the White House to provide additional COVID-19 relief.

Prior to adjourning for its August recess, the House approved a robust FY 2021 THUD spending bill that included funding increases to nearly every HUD program and an additional $49 billion in infrastructure investment in HUD programs. This legislation, if signed into law, would continue the progress toward full funding for HUD programs. However, the Senate has yet to begin its work on appropriations – even though the fiscal year begins in a few short weeks.

Tell Congress and the White House to finalize FY 2021 T-HUD spending immediately to avoid the need for multiple continuing resolutions and avoid the possibility of a government shutdown.

Additionally, up to 40 million Americans may be at risk of eviction in the coming months and Washington has not made meaningful progress toward a compromised COVID-19 relief bill despite weeks of negotiations. After you send your FY 2021 T-HUD letter, remind Congress and the White House that they need to take immediate action on COVID-19 relief.
