House Approves CR, Shutdown Likely Averted

In a bipartisan vote late Tuesday night, the House approved a short-term spending bill that continues government operations until Friday, December 11 and likely averts the possibility of a government shutdown. The fiscal year ends on September 30, one week from today.

The bill now moves to the Senate, which is expected to vote on the bill early next week. If approved by the Senate, the bill goes to the President for his signature.

While the CR likely avoids a government shutdown until at least December, Congress still has a significant amount of appropriations work to do for FY 2021. The House approved a robust Transportation-HUD bill, but the Senate has yet to begin its appropriations work.
