Action Alert: Tell Congress to Preserve Affordable Housing Programs for Working Families in Debt Ceiling Talks!

As America faces an unprecedented default on its national debt, Congressional Leaders and the Biden Administration are still negotiating a deal to raise the debt limit. Deep spending cuts have taken center stage in this debate — make your voice heard by urging your members of Congress to preserve crucial funding for affordable housing programs!

Last month, the U.S. House passed a bill that would lift the debt ceiling in exchange for an estimated 22% cut to domestic programs, including HUD. It would also cap spending at a 1% increase per year. If this bill becomes law, the Biden administration estimates that approximately 640,000 people currently receiving rental assistance would lose their subsidies (not to mention that 76 % of eligible people in need are still waiting for assistance).

The national budget cannot be balanced on the backs of our most vulnerable neighbors! Tell Congress to quickly reject any proposal that cuts crucial affordable housing programs, and work together to reach a balanced solution that pays America’s bills and protects working families!
