Rising Together: LGBTQ and Housing Advocacy
As housing authorities and communities evolve, effective communication and engagement with LGBTQ+ residents and staff matter more than ever. As NAHRO member agencies seek to attract and retain top, skilled workers regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity, creating welcoming and inclusive workplaces becomes essential for successful employee retention and management. In this session, the history, present reality, and unique needs of LGBTQ+ residents and staff members will be discussed within the framework of LGBTQ+ housing topics, agency cultures, and ongoing challenges.

Hip Hop History & Housing
This session will examine the core elements of hip hop history and culture and its impact on housing. Hip Hop as a musical genre is a multi-billion-dollar component of the entertainment industry. Hip Hop’s global impact can be observed in a multitude of ways, from record sales to empowering marginalized communities to organize and speak out against social injustice. While some simply listen to rap music, many others adopt the culture as a way of life. The presentation will delve into issues such as race, class, gender, and cultural identity and evaluate how historical phenomena and governmental actions influenced the development of hip-hop culture and its transformation into a global cultural phenomenon.

Landlords Wanted! Engagement Strategies to Increase Landlord Participation
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program has grown to be the largest rental housing program in American history but has yet to live up to its public-private partnership design. There is an art of Attracting, Recruiting, and Retaining Landlords for the HCV Program. This process is for those that truly understand that this is a language barrier between public housing authorities (PHAs) and landlords. Presenters will explore innovative ways to increase landlord engagement by attracting and recruiting new landlords for the HCV Program. The presentation will also discuss engagement strategies to rekindle the fire of former landlords through rebranding initiatives.
