Preparing for Disasters and Navigating Insurance Challenges in Affordable Housing

Monday, September 29: 3:30pm – 4:45pm

The U.S. faces an affordable housing crisis, with a shortage of 7.3 million affordable homes for the lowest-income renters. While federally assisted housing accounts for approximately 10% of the nation’s rental housing, affordability restrictions are set to expire for 374,497 federally assisted homes over the next five years. At the same time, severe weather events pose a growing threat to this housing stock and its residents. This session will examine the frequency and costs surrounding weather disasters; and discuss tools for mitigating risk, developing a disaster preparedness plan, and navigating insurance challenges.
