Succession Planning Highlights: What to Do When an Executive Leaves?

What happens when a member of the executive team gives notice to leave their position, or worse, is suddenly gone? Even if you are prepared this can be a very challenging and stressful situation for staff and commissioners as some serious questions will arise:

  • Do you have the bench strength to temporarily fill the position and for the long term?
  • What are the true talents, behaviors, values, beliefs and communication styles that are needed for a successful replacement?
  • Have you completed a good Job Analysis to know what you are looking for?
  • What parameters and processes will you use for internal and/or external hiring or a professional search for a replacement?

This 90-minute session is focused on the overarching principles of effective succession planning, including some overlooked and underused techniques and tools.  At the conclusion of the session attendees will attain a clear understanding of the importance of strategic visioning behind succession planning and a good idea how to get started.
