Build a Stronger, More Efficient HUD

National Housing Framework

Updated July 10, 2025

HUD’s ability to manage critical programs like RAD, MTW, and new Fair Housing initiatives has been severely impacted by spending cuts over the past five years, leading to layoffs, retirements, and restructuring. Despite these challenges, HUD has been implementing significant changes under HOTMA, NSPIRE, and other initiatives. To ensure these changes are successful and to maintain consistent operations across the country, HUD requires increased support and funding from the administration and Congress. Like NAHRO members, HUD staff are committed to providing safe, secure housing for low-income families and need federal backing to do so effectively.

Recommendation: The administration must provide steadfast support to the Department to help them successfully meet their mission. In addition to fully funding HUD programs, we also urge the administration to prioritize the staffing and information technology needs of federal departments like the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
