House Financial Services Sends Letter to Some PHAs
February 12, 2026 — Yesterday, House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill, along with Subcommittee Chairs Dan Meuser (Oversight and Investigations) and Mike Flood (Housing and Insurance), announced that oversight letters were sent to 32 Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) designated by HUD as “troubled,” requesting detailed information on financial management, procurement, property conditions, and plans to address deficiencies. According to the Committee, the review is part of a broader effort to examine the quality and safety of public housing.
Earlier this week, NAHRO testified before the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations noting that: “Time and time again, [PHAs] demonstrate that they are effective stewards of federal housing resources, doing more with less to serve their communities. Although PHAs are succeeding despite chronic underinvestment, PHAs could see even more success with full funding coupled with appropriate oversight.”
NAHRO will continue reinforcing this message to Congress.
