HUD Announces $10 Million in Additional Administrative Fees for HUD-VASH Vouchers
By: Tushar Gurjal, Senior Policy Manager
January 15, 2026 – Earlier today, HUD published a notice titled “2025 Additional Administrative Fees for HUD-VASH” (Notice PIH 2026-01). The notice announces the availability of $10 million in funding for PHAs currently administering the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) vouchers. HUD-VASH vouchers are a type of special purpose voucher for veterans that combines rental assistance from HUD with case management services by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The notice also provides information on how to request these funds and outlines eligible uses of the HUD-VASH administrative fees. Applications must be received by March 2, 2026.
The notice provides information on how PHAs may receive the administrative fees. The Department is making these HUD-VASH administrative fees available based on two factors: 1) the total number of HUD-VASH vouchers currently administered by the PHA; and 2) the total number of HUD-VASH PHAs requesting administrative fees under the notice. To apply for the funds, PHAs must submit an electronic form on the HUD-VASH page certifying that the PHA will use the funds only for HUD-VASH vouchers and consistent with the notice.
The notice provides information on the eligible uses of the HUD-VASH administrative fees. These administrative fees may only be used for “. . . costs incurred by a PHA in carrying out administrative responsibilities under the HUD-VASH program . . .” and other expenses described in section 3 of Notice PIH 2022-18. Housing agencies are encouraged to use these fees for activities like owner incentives, retention payments, and security deposits.
The notice also describes certain reporting requirements that the PHA must follow.
