Streamlining PHA Operations with Upfront Income Verification

Verifying income has become increasingly challenging due to applicant fraud, reduced staffing, and diverse income sources. HUD’s top method for income verification, upfront income verification (UIV), relies on non-HUD systems. While many agencies use The Work Number, there are more cost-effective alternatives. Leveraging electronic data verification can strengthen program integrity, boost administrative efficiency, and simplify the housing assistance process for applicants. This session will explore how the costs of UIV are justified in addressing these challenges and highlight the benefits of using alternative data sources for verification.
