NAHRO Celebrates National Community Development Week
By: Steven Molinari, Policy Analyst
April 22, 2025 — This week, April 21-25, 2025, NAHRO celebrates National Community Development Week. During this time, NAHRO calls on members and nonmembers alike, to share why community development programs are so important.
National Community Development Week is meant to be a time where stakeholders advocate the importance of the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program to Members of Congress. Specifically, this is the time to explain the local impact and, most importantly, the need for increased program funding.
The CDBG and HOME programs each provide local benefits that improve communities, whether it be through the creation of homes or of public services, like water and wastewater systems, emergency shelters, and community centers. However, neither program has ever been adjusted to inflation even though local activity and operating costs increase annually. Advocacy of these programs is the only way we can increase awareness of their need and ensure future funding.
