Preparing for Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) Termination

Terminating Housing Assistance Payments can be a scary process.  Have you wondered if your agency is doing it correctly?  If so, this training is for you. Participants will learn to ensure compliance with HUD regulations, as well as explore strategies to prepare for and document the termination of HAP payments.

This process can seem daunting, but together we will share best practices for how to respond to complaints and compliance issues, documentation, creating participant agreements, preparing your termination letter, hearing preparation, and how to respond to reasonable accommodation requests.

Training facilitators will not provide legal advice to participants, but this training provides the opportunity for discussion of best practices and plenty of idea sharing.

After completing this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify relevant federal requirements in 24 CFR 982 for the voucher program, termination notices, informal hearings, consideration of reasonable accommodation requests, and fair housing issues.
  • Develop strategies to promote fair and consistent termination policies and processes.

Who should attend?

  • HCV Specialists
  • HCV Supervisors and Program Managers
  • Hearings Officers
  • Other agency staff responsible for the Voucher Program
