NAHRO President and CEO on Recent Anti-Asian Violence
By Sunny Shaw, NAHRO President and Adrianne Todman, NAHRO CEO
Earlier this week, cameras captured a horrific act: A 65-year-old Asian American woman was brutally assaulted – in broad daylight – as bystanders watched. This incident is just one example of an abhorrent increase in anti-Asian violence and harassment that should not be tolerated and must be punished.
Acts of racism and xenophobia are toxic and breed injustice. No one should live in fear because of their race or where they were born. As a community of professionals who believe in building stronger neighborhoods and helping families in need, we should not tolerate acts of hate nor hurtful language that target the Asian American community.
We must condemn these acts in the strongest terms.
NAHRO remains committed to an inclusive approach that promotes the voices of our Asian American colleagues as we continue our journey to advance diversity and equity within our industry.
