NAHRO Congratulates James Arthur Jemison II for his Nomination as HUD Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing

On Monday, Sept. 13, President Biden announced the nomination of James Arthur Jemison II as HUD Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing. Mr. Jemison is currently the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of HUD’s Office of Community Planning and Development. Previously, he served the City of Detroit as a Group Executive for Planning Housing and Development and Chief of Services and Infrastructure, and as the Deputy Undersecretary and Director of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development. He earned a Master of City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BA in Social Thought and Political Economy from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

“NAHRO congratulates Mr. Jemison on his nomination as HUD Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing,” NAHRO Interim CEO Mike Gerber said. “Mr. Jemison has a wealth of experience in the affordable housing and community development industry, and has worked at both housing and redevelopment agencies. We look forward to working with him as his nomination moves through the Senate.”

“HUD’s Office of Public and Indian Housing provides safe affordable housing to millions of American families and will be critical to implementing the expansion of the housing choice voucher program and the preservation of our nation’s public housing infrastructure currently being discussed in Congress,” Gerber continued. “NAHRO calls on the Senate to act swiftly on this important nomination.”
