NAHRO Focuses on FY18 HCD Approps in Final Week of August Advocacy

It’s the final week of August advocacy! Take action now to support responsible funding for housing and community development in the upcoming fiscal year!

September is shaping up to be a politically difficult and busy month. Prior to adjourning for the August recess, neither the House nor the Senate completed its FY 2018 budget and appropriations process, leaving only 12 legislative days to put a spending bill in place before the end of the fiscal year on September 30. This process could become even more complicated — the debt ceiling is expected to be reached on September 29 and the President recently threatened a shutdown over border wall funding.

For a full update on the status of the budget and appropriations process, visit the NAHRO blog.

Please reach out to your members of Congress today to urge them to reach a budget deal that does not force cuts to domestic programs and to finalize FY 2018 spending as quickly as possible.

Once you have sent your letter, tweet at your elected officials to make sure they hear you. You can find their Twitter handles on their websites. Here are some sample tweets to guide you:

  • Approve a spending bill that provides full funding for #T-HUD programs in September #NAHROAdvocacy
  • I depend on timely, fully-funded HUD programs to serve our community. Pass FY18 #THUD funding now #NAHROAdvocacy

While we’ve sent over 1,500 letters to Congress in August, that’s still well below our 2,500-letter goal. Reach out to your Congressional representatives today and help us achieve it!
