Overview
By achieving NAHRO’s Certified Management Executive (CME), an individual has demonstrated that they have the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required of a competent and effective manager and leader at the executive and senior management level in a housing, redevelopment and/or community revitalization and development organization. The requirements for the CME include experience and/or education, passing the CME Exam, adhering to NAHRO’s Professional Code of Conduct, and application. The body of knowledge on which the CME is based includes senior level managerial and leadership concepts and best practices; understanding of legal issues including fair housing and procurement; and, knowledge of HUD’s Affordable/Assisted Housing Programs.
Certification Requirements
LESS Than Ten Years’ Senior Management Experience in the Housing & Community Revitalization Industry
1. Hold a NAHRO Manager of Property Operations Certification
2. Successful completion of of the following NAHRO Seminars or equivalent (minimum 1.95 NAHRO CEUs):
Additional elective seminar(s). 0.8 NAHRO CEUs (8 hours). Seminars can be selected by candidate, subject areas should relate to the certification. NAHRO Seminars Include (other provider’s education accepted):

Ten to Fifteen Years’ Senior Management Experience in the Housing & Community Revitalization Industry
1. Must have at least ten years’ experience in a Senior Management Position (CEO, Executive Director, Deputy Director or Department Director. Other senior positions will be considered);
AND
2. Must have held a leadership office at the chapter, regional or national level of an affordable housing professional membership organization.
OR
3. Successful completion of following NAHRO seminar or equivalent (minimum 1.95 NAHRO CEUs:

MORE Than Fifteen Years’ Senior Management Experience in the Housing & Community Revitalization Industry
1. Must have at least fifteen years’ experience in a senior management position (CEO, Executive Director, Deputy Director or Department Director. Other senior positions will be considered)
2. Successful completion of the following NAHRO Seminar or equivalent (minimum 0.5 NAHRO CEUs):

Recertification
- Recertification is required every three years. 2.5 NAHRO Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or equivalant are required every three years.
